The Locket That Broke Her Life

Chapter 4: The Replacement Child

Emily retreated a slow, agonizing step, her mind struggling to process the revelation.

“You’re saying I had a sister?”

Dr. Harris gave a grim, heavy nod. “She wasn’t lost. She was replaced.”

Eleanor rounded on the physician, her eyes blazing. “By who?”

Richard offered no answer. His suffocating silence echoed through the room, far louder than any verbal confession.

Dr. Harris pressed on, his voice weighted with decades of remorse. “After the hospital incident, one child was sent to an orphanage.” He paused, his gaze flickering toward Richard. “While the other was given to a private family.”

Emily’s chest heaved as her breathing grew ragged and unstable. “And me?”

Dr. Harris met her terrified eyes. “You were the one sent away.”

A violent shudder racked Eleanor’s entire frame. “Where is the other child?”

A agonizing silence stretched across the restaurant.

Then—

Richard finally spoke, his tone chillingly calm. “She is safe.”

Eleanor stared at her husband, horror warping her features. “You stole my child.”

He didn’t flinch. Instead, he corrected her coldly: “I protected the one I chose.”

Emily’s voice shattered into a heartbroken whisper. “You chose?”

Richard slowly turned to face her, his expression utterly devoid of remorse. “Yes.”

The agonizing reality finally laid bare. It was never just a theft.

It was a cold, calculated selection.

One twin brought up in the lap of luxury and high society.

The other systematically erased from existence.
