PART 1 – She Was Forced to Eat Beneath the Table While Guests Dined Above Her
Sebastian never imagined the day he forgot an important folder at home would become the day his entire life shattered.
It was just before noon. He had left a meeting downtown to retrieve the documents before heading to a multimillion-dollar contract presentation. As he unlocked the front door, expensive perfume mixed with the aroma of seafood and red wine drifted through the hallway.
His mother was entertaining guests again.
That wasn’t unusual.
Since moving into the estate three years earlier, Eleanor loved hosting elegant luncheons for the women in her social circle. Sebastian rarely paid attention. He traveled constantly for work and believed his wife enjoyed helping his mother entertain visitors.
At least, that was what he’d always been told.
For twelve years, Sebastian had built his logistics empire from almost nothing.
Back when he couldn’t even afford rent, Clara never left his side. She worked exhausting double shifts after his first business collapsed. She sold the only heirloom her grandmother left her just to help him pay overdue company debts. She skipped buying new clothes so he could keep paying his employees.
Every success he enjoyed had Clara’s fingerprints on it.
When his business finally flourished, Sebastian bought a spacious home and invited his widowed mother to live with them.
He believed the woman who had sacrificed so much raising him would eventually treat Clara like the daughter she never had.
Instead…
Something had slowly changed.
Clara, now eight months pregnant after six heartbreaking years of failed fertility treatments, had become quieter.
She smiled less.
She grew thinner every week.
Whenever Sebastian mentioned it, Eleanor would immediately reassure him.
“Pregnancy affects women differently.”
“I made her fresh salmon today.”
“She had homemade soup.”
“I bought all the vitamins the doctor recommended.”
Sebastian never questioned her.
After all, he had given his mother unlimited access to one of his credit cards specifically for groceries, prenatal care, and anything Clara might need.
He trusted her completely.
As he walked toward the dining room, loud laughter echoed through the house.
Then…
A woman’s voice cut through the noise.
“Women who live off a rich husband belong under the table anyway!”
The room exploded with laughter.
Sebastian frowned.
Something felt terribly wrong.
He stepped closer.
The dining table overflowed with lobster, premium steaks, imported cheeses, desserts, and expensive wine.
Luxury shopping bags rested against the chairs.
Six elegantly dressed women chatted happily while Eleanor sat proudly at the head of the table.
But Clara…
She wasn’t sitting with them.
Sebastian scanned the room.
Nothing.
Then one of the guests casually tossed a half-eaten rib beneath the table.
Only then did Sebastian notice movement beneath the long white tablecloth.
His heart stopped.
There…
On the cold marble floor…
His eight-months-pregnant wife knelt beneath the dining table.
Her maternity dress was stained.
Both knees rested directly against the hard stone floor.
One hand instinctively protected her swollen belly while the other reached toward a plastic plate containing leftover scraps.
She carefully pulled tiny pieces of meat from discarded bones, eating in complete silence.
As though she had accepted this was where she belonged.
Another guest laughed.
“After the baby arrives, Sebastian should finally marry someone worthy of his status.”
Eleanor slowly sipped her wine.
“Oh, don’t worry,” she replied with a smile.
“She already served her purpose.”
Several women leaned closer.
“My son only needed someone to carry his child.”
“Once the baby is born…”
“…she’ll be gone.”
The women chuckled.
Eleanor continued without the slightest hint of shame.
“Let her finish those leftovers.”
“Then she can clean the bathrooms before she goes upstairs.”
Sebastian felt something inside him snap.
Not anger.
Not disappointment.
Something much deeper.
Something irreversible.
Without saying a word, he strode forward, grabbed the edge of the enormous tablecloth…
…and pulled with every ounce of strength he had.
China shattered.
Wine bottles crashed across the marble floor.
Lobsters, crystal glasses, silverware, and expensive dishes exploded in every direction.
The women screamed in panic.
“What are you doing?!”
“Have you lost your mind?”
Eleanor jumped to her feet.
“Sebastian!”
“I am your mother!”
Ignoring everyone else, Sebastian dropped to his knees.
He gently wrapped his suit jacket around Clara’s trembling shoulders.
She looked up at him, eyes already filling with tears.
Yet even now…
She tried protecting the people who had humiliated her.
“I… I wanted to sit here…”
“It was my choice…”
Sebastian closed his eyes for a second.
Even after everything…
She was still trying to shield his family.
He carefully helped her stand.
His voice became frighteningly calm.
“No…”
“You never chose this.”
Then he slowly turned toward his mother.
“And neither did I.”
