PART 2 – The Truth Hidden Behind Closed Doors
Sebastian drove through three red lights before reaching the private hospital.
The entire ride, Clara kept apologizing.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t want you to worry.”
He gripped the steering wheel tighter.
“Worry?” he whispered. “You almost lost our baby… and you’re apologizing to me?”
She lowered her eyes.
“I thought… if you knew, you’d stop focusing on work. You’ve worked too hard to build everything.”
Those words hurt more than anything he had witnessed in the dining room.
Even now, she was thinking about protecting him instead of herself.
Two hours later, the obstetrician walked into the consultation room with a stack of medical reports.
His expression was unusually serious.
“Mr. Vance…”
“I’m afraid your wife has been suffering for quite some time.”
Sebastian stood immediately.
“Is the baby okay?”
“For now.”
The doctor paused.
“But barely.”
He laid several test results across the desk.
“Mrs. Vance is severely anemic.”
“She’s malnourished.”
“Her body shows prolonged physical exhaustion.”
“The fetus has also begun showing signs of distress caused by inadequate nutrition.”
Sebastian felt the room spinning.
The doctor continued quietly.
“If she had arrived just one more day later…”
He didn’t finish the sentence.
He didn’t have to.
Sebastian already understood.
He almost lost both his wife…
…and his son.
As the nurses prepared Clara for iron infusions, another physician gently rolled up her hospital gown.
Dark bruises covered both knees.
Older bruises had already faded into yellow.
Newer ones were deep purple.
There were also marks along her lower ribs.
The doctor looked directly at Sebastian.
“These injuries weren’t caused by one accident.”
“They happened repeatedly.”
“Has someone been hurting your wife?”
Sebastian couldn’t answer.
His throat had closed.
That evening, he made one phone call.
“Marcus.”
His longtime security director answered immediately.
“Yes, sir.”
“I want every second of security footage from this house.”
“No exceptions.”
“Check the last eight months.”
Marcus hesitated only briefly.
“I’ll start immediately.”
By midnight, the footage began arriving.
Sebastian watched alone inside the hospital’s family lounge.
Every video felt like another knife twisting deeper into his chest.
One recording showed Clara dragging a heavy bucket across the marble floor while heavily pregnant.
Eleanor stood nearby.
“Don’t miss a single corner.”
“If you’re going to live in my son’s house, you’ll earn your place.”
Another clip showed Eleanor dismissing the longtime housekeeper.
“We don’t need staff anymore.”
“My daughter-in-law can clean.”
The next recording…
Clara prepared an elaborate lunch for nearly four hours.
She carried steaming dishes to Eleanor’s guests.
She smiled politely.
Served everyone first.
Then quietly remained standing behind them.
After the luncheon ended, the guests walked away laughing.
Only then did Eleanor point toward the leftovers.
“You may eat now.”
Not at the table.
Not in the kitchen.
On the floor.
Exactly where Sebastian had found her.
He slammed the laptop shut.
His hands wouldn’t stop shaking.
Marcus arrived at the hospital shortly before dawn carrying several folders.
“I think you’ll want to see these in person.”
The first folder contained bank statements.
Sebastian’s unlimited household card had been used almost daily.
Designer boutiques.
Luxury handbags.
Exclusive jewelry stores.
Five-star restaurants.
Private spa memberships.
Weekend shopping trips.
The total exceeded two hundred thousand dollars.
Almost none of it had anything to do with Clara.
Marcus slid over another document.
“There’s more.”
Large transfers had been quietly funneled into Julian’s accounts.
Sebastian stared at the numbers.
His younger brother…
A man who had never managed to keep a job for more than a few months…
Had been living like a millionaire using Sebastian’s money.
The records showed payments for a brand-new convertible.
VIP nightclub reservations.
An engagement ring worth tens of thousands of dollars.
Everything funded through the account that was supposed to care for his pregnant wife.
Marcus placed one final flash drive on the table.
“We almost missed this.”
“It’s audio from the kitchen.”
Sebastian pressed play.
His mother’s voice filled the room.
“Once Clara gives birth…”
“We’ll tell Sebastian she’s mentally unstable.”
A second voice answered.
Julian.
“And the baby?”
“You know how often your brother travels.”
“I’ll convince him the child is safer with me.”
“We’ll raise the baby ourselves.”
Julian laughed.
“And Clara?”
“She’ll leave with nothing.”
“What about the estate?”
Eleanor chuckled confidently.
“My son has always done whatever I asked.”
“One day he’ll transfer everything into my name.”
Silence filled the hospital lounge.
The recording ended.
Sebastian didn’t move.
For years…
He believed his greatest weakness was trusting strangers too easily.
He had been wrong.
The people he trusted most had been the ones destroying his family from the inside.
At sunrise, he looked at Marcus.
His voice carried no emotion.
“Freeze every account.”
“Cancel every authorized card.”
“Start a complete financial audit.”
“And from this moment forward…”
“No one enters Clara’s room without my permission.”
Marcus nodded once.
“It’ll be done.”
Sebastian turned toward the hospital room where Clara slept peacefully for the first time in months.
He had failed to protect her once.
He silently promised himself…
It would never happen again.
