I Put a Laxative in My Husband’s Coffee Before He Went to See His Mistress… But What Happened Next Was Worse Than I Expected

Part 2: The Silent House

The satisfaction I felt from my little act of revenge lasted exactly until my second margarita.

Sitting with my friends and laughing about how the powerful corporate executive had been reduced to a desperate man because of a double dose of over-the-counter laxatives felt incredibly freeing.

But when the clock reached 3:00 PM, an uneasy feeling began to grow inside me.

It was a strange, persistent anxiety that I couldn’t explain.

So I ended the afternoon early, said goodbye to the girls, and drove home.

When I arrived at the house, everything looked completely empty.

The front door was still unlocked, exactly as I had left it.

I stepped inside, expecting to hear Mark complaining from the bedroom—or perhaps shouting angrily about how I had ruined his romantic plans.

Instead…

there was nothing.

The silence was almost frightening.

“Mark?” I called.

My voice echoed through the house.

No answer.

I slowly climbed the stairs, my heart beginning to beat harder.

The first place I checked was the upstairs bathroom.

The door stood wide open.

The room itself looked clean.

But on the counter was Mark’s phone.

The screen was completely shattered, as if someone had thrown it violently against the tiled floor.

Then I noticed something else.

A trail of muddy footprints.

They led from the bathroom, down the hallway, and directly toward our home office.

I followed them and pushed open the office door.

The room looked as though someone had searched through it in a hurry.

Desk drawers were hanging open.

Papers were scattered across the floor.

And the small wall safe hidden behind the painting stood wide open.

Completely empty.

I dropped my purse and immediately began searching through the papers around me.

That was when I understood.

Mark hadn’t simply taken his passport and some emergency cash.

He had also taken the hard drive containing the deeds to our jointly owned properties.

He had taken the stock certificates my late father had left me.

And he had taken the signed authorization forms for our shared investment accounts.

This had never been just about an affair.

The laxative hadn’t simply ruined a romantic date.

It had disrupted a much larger plan.

A plan Mark had probably been preparing for months.

The sudden sound of vibration made me turn around.

The shattered phone on the bathroom counter was still working enough to light up.

I picked it up.

The screen was covered in cracks.

A new message had just appeared.

I read the preview.

It wasn’t from Caroline.

Instead, the sender was saved under a name that simply read:

The Broker.

The message said:

“The offshore transfer is waiting for your final physical signature at the airport branch. You have 45 minutes before the flight to Zurich boards. Caroline is already at the gate with the tickets.”

I stared at the message.

Suddenly, everything became clear.

The meeting Mark had dressed up for wasn’t a secret hotel date.

He had planned to leave the country that very day.

He was attempting to transfer everything we owned overseas and leave me to deal with the financial disaster afterward.

The laxative hadn’t just destroyed his stomach.

It had destroyed his schedule.

And that delay might have given me the one chance I needed.

The Airport Standoff

I didn’t call the police immediately.

There was no time to sit on the phone trying to explain three years of financial fraud to a dispatcher.

Instead, I called my cousin Leo.

He worked as a senior customs officer at Terminal 2.

Then I got into my car and drove toward the airport as fast as I could.

When I reached the international departures hall, the place was crowded.

But I immediately recognized that expensive cologne.

That strong, sweet scent was impossible to miss.

I followed it toward the entrance of the VIP lounge.

And there he was.

Mark was leaning heavily against one of the pillars.

He looked pale, sweaty, exhausted, and miserable.

His briefcase was clutched tightly against his chest.

Beside him stood Caroline.

She was holding two passports and staring at him with obvious disgust as he visibly winced through another painful stomach cramp.

“Mark!” I shouted.

My voice cut through the noise of the terminal.

Both of them turned around.

The moment Mark saw me, his eyes widened with pure terror.

He tried to run toward the security line.

But his body had other plans.

A sudden wave of pain struck his stomach.

He bent over sharply.

The briefcase slipped from his hands and landed on the polished airport floor.

Caroline didn’t hesitate for even a second.

She grabbed the briefcase.

Then she abandoned Mark right there on the floor and ran toward the gate.

She thought she could still escape.

But she didn’t know I had already contacted Leo.

The moment Caroline crossed the security threshold, two airport police officers stepped forward.

They blocked her path.

And they secured the briefcase.

Meanwhile, Mark remained on the floor.

He was groaning in a spectacular combination of physical pain and complete defeat.

I walked toward him.

I looked down at the man who had spent months trying to destroy my financial security and steal the inheritance my father had left me.

Then I knelt down beside him.

I picked up his passport from the floor.

And calmly slipped it into the pocket of my coat.

“You know, Mark,” I whispered with a sweet smile as the security team approached us, “you were right.”

He looked up at me weakly.

“Strategy, projects, cooperation…”

I smiled.

“It really is all about execution.”

The police detained both Mark and Caroline at the airport.

And because the financial documents and forged signatures were physically inside the briefcase, outside the secure area, the authorities immediately had enough evidence to take action.
